My very own website!!! Yikes!

I’m a Halloween hater, sorry!

I have never been a fan of Halloween and now that it has grown in popular culture I like it even less. The only problem is… my kids love it!
We recently bought them new costumes for the amazing price of only Ā£3.99 each at Aldi.

They are completely obsessed with their costumes. Matthew insisted on wearing his to the school disco even though it wasn’t meant to be fancy dress. The skeleton design is brilliant, I love the bright bones on the black onesie and the skull head cover is amazing too. It is really interesting trying to imagine that Matthew’s skeleton is really like that inside him! Just a warning: it gets a bit sweaty!
I think Anya will wear hers to her disco as well (plus she has to dress as a with at some point in Year 1 so I planned ahead!) The witch’s hat is good quality and I love the rainbow colours on the dress. The only thing I’m worried about is her getting cold, hence why she is wearing a red top underneath in this pic!
The main thing I hate about Halloween is trick or treating. Last year we didn’t actually get anyone so had to eat the sweets ourselves šŸ™‚ The reason I dislike it is simple: it disturbs our evening, it upsets Ollie and wakes the children. Poor Ollie thinks he needs to protect us from anyone coming to the door and barks loudly. The children get all over excited and if it is after they have gone to bed then it stops them sleeping.

My children nagged me last year to take them out trick or treating so I took them to my parents and their lovely neighbour as well as a few neighbours in our street who have children. Did I mention that Halloween is in October: it is cold and dark! Not my favourite šŸ™
The kids adore the Halloween Scary Peeper we have this year to frighten people and I think we will put it in the front window with some Christmas lights around it or lit up from below with a torch.

Having worked in schools for so many years, I did used to enjoy it when pupils came to the door and recognised me but then that led to problems of them knowing where I lived. One March I had a group of teens come trick or treating. MARCH! They did have the good grace to look a little uncomfortable…
Actually I must confess to getting this outfit for Matt when he was 6 months old so maybe their whole love of Halloween is my fault anyway… šŸ™‚

Stay safe and seen this Halloween!

  1. I didn’t like it much until last year and I must admit my eldest loved it. I have a post coming out this week on how I was turned with trick or treating. It is very American though eh? Thanks for sharing with #bloggersbest and have a good one x

  2. I’m here in The States so this has been a part of my whole life. We love it. I could do without all the candy but the dressing up bit is pretty fun. There are multiple activities over the course of the month that we attend so we get plenty of use out of ours #dreamteam

  3. I actually really love Halloween but I can see how parents with younger children might not love it. There is a lot more you have to do. When I was growing up, there was a group of us kids that would trick-or-treat together so my parents didn’t have to do it. LOL I’m sure they appreciated that.

  4. I would never allow my
Boys to knock on strangers doors. We have always only
Visited friends or relatives. This year is are attending an organised event. Halloween is becoming more popular in Holland now. The boys love it! Thank you for linking up to #ablogginggoodtime

  5. Mr C hates Halloween, and it’s basically the only reason I held off having a party this year. Next year, though, I’ll be doing Halloween full pelt haha! I’d rather have a party and invite all the school/nursery friends though, than go trick or treating. #ablogginggoodtime

  6. I’m not a fan of halloween either tbh. Our girls (5) are desperate to go trick or treating, but I’m not keen on it tbh. Thanks for linking up to #ThatFridayLinky

  7. Oh this post has made me smile, which in itself is a bloody miracle at the moment, so thank you so much, you wonderful lady! I love that even though you hate Halloween, you still got sweets for it and what a shame you had to eat them yourselves…win/ win šŸ™‚ #ThatFridayLinky x

  8. I’m not a huge fan of Halloween either, although my boys love dressing up as skeletons and monsters! We have a little Halloween themed party at home but I don’t take them out trick or treating. #Blogstravaganza

  9. Bargain costumes! Look fantastic! Yes I’m not a huge fan either, i think I have another year before my eldest (who’s 4 soon) will understand it more and want to go trick or treating. They are really good round our way and only knock on the door if there is a pumpkin or other halloween type decoration outside. We usually turn all the lights out and keep the curtains shut. x #Blogstravaganza

  10. No-one came to my door last year so I’m hoping for the same! Luckily, my little one is still too young to know what’s going on, but I’m sure I’ll have to prepare myself for dressing up in the future! I love their outfits – very cool. Thank you for linking to #blogstravaganza

  11. I’m with you on this front!! We don’t really do Halloween, although I’ve tried to do a few more halloweeny things this year for Baby Lighty as he’s starting to become more aware at the age of 2.5. Today I think we will be pumpkin carving!! Thank you for linking this to #DreamTeam!

  12. I’ve never really got into Halloween before, but this is the first year that my son has really shown and interest, and he’s really excited all of a sudden. I’ve had to make him a spider costume for nursery on Tuesday and he can’t wait to show everyone. I’m less sure on trick or treating – I definitely wouldn’t want to be knocking on strangers’ doors, but we’ve never yet had a knock on ours in the 4 years we’ve lived here, people seem to abide by the ‘only knock if there’s a pumpkin outside’ rule. I guess I’ll have a few more years to think about what we do! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

  13. We moved house at Christmas and the village we are now in, love Halloween. We re going to a friends house for a party before we all go off round the village. Its great because its safe and we know the people we are knocking on. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

  14. I don’t like Halloween at all. As a very sensitive child, I hated it because I found it so frightening. And as an adult, I just have bad memories of hating it as a child, plus I see my own very sensitive kids being scared of it too. However, I do think that skeleton costume is pretty cool because, as you say, you can see that that’s what his actual skeleton would look like – fab! #ablogginggoodtime
