This book is a fascinating read about morality and the ethics of using violence for avenging the innocent.
We are introduced to Ellie and Mia. They are on different sides of the law.
Ellie wins the lottery and sets up rescue centres for animals but also hires a team to get revenge on those that abuse and kill animals. Mia is a doctor helping the police with their investigation into the human murders and acts of terrorism. She goes off on her own and searches for the killers at the behest of the lead detective who is in love with her.
Halfway through the book is a major development (I won’t spoil it!) and Mia finds herself with an unthinkable dilemma.
The author Chris Clement-Green has really spun a good tale. This book would be brilliant for a book club as the opposing viewpoints would provide an excellent debate. It is so thought provoking and relevant to today’s modern society as well as my own personal journey to be vegan and cruelty free.
The title She Will Rescue You has multiple meanings. Ellie is rescuing animals as well as saving humans from their own worst excesses. She is saving those who work for her by providing a safe home and a reason to live. In the second half of the book, Mia is trying to rescue and protect others (no more details, my lips are sealed!)
I admit that it took me a while to get into this book as the two strands seem worlds apart to begin with. However, it is definitely worth persevering as the twist is fabulous and the whole book is stunningly intelligent.

Chris Clement-Green Author Bio
I retired from Thames Valley Police after sixteen years as a uniform sergeant followed by five as a civilian investigator on serious and organised crime teams in Humberside and Wiltshire – which included working on several murder incident rooms.
My serious writing started in 2007 when I entered the National Association of Writer’s Groups annual short story competition. It was my first competition so I was astonished to win with Pebbles. This win encouraged me to undertake the Open University Creative Writing and Advanced Creative Writing courses, which I completed with distinction. In 2013 I was accepted onto the prestigious Bath Spa University Creative Writing MA, where I completed a humorous but gritty life-writing manuscript Into the Valley which was subsequently published by Mirror Books in 2017.
I have had several articles and letters published in national UK magazines, most notably Writing Magazine, and in September 2016 I was published in The New Guard Volume V a literary journal based in New York. I have also been short listed in the Literature Works First Page Writing Prize and in several Writing Magazine competitions. In 2016 my fantasy short story, Layla, was published in Divinity Fantasia Magazine and I won the Oriel Davis Prose Competition with Cosmic Tiger and was also a finalist in the Women in Comedy Festival with my monologue Queenie. This year my article Food for Thought was runner up in the Scribble annual article completion, and I co-wrote a piece on the subject of Mentoring with James McCreet which was published on the 6th September 2018.
My recently completed debut novel She Will Rescue You is being published on the 30th May 2019 by Joffe Books and I am currently working on a new crime novel – Rage Hard which is another police procedural set in Oxford revolving around a white WPC and black criminal during the race riots of Thatcher’s Britain.

Granny Franny and her big red bus are off on another adventure!
In Granny Franny’s Big Zoo Rescue, we meet up again with Granny Franny and her grandchildren Jax and Ronni. The talking bus bell Thinkerbell also returns with her rhyming speech.
The premise of this book is a trip to the zoo but things quickly go wrong when the children climb on board the bus and spot escaped animals on their journey. Can Granny Franny and the children use the bus to round up the animals and get them safely back to the zoo…?
As you can see from the photos above, the illustrations are fun and bright. Thinkerbell has the word ‘push’ on her nose so Zach obliged each time! This is a lovely book to share with younger children and is a fun way for older siblings to enjoy time with little ones whilst practising their expression and fluency of reading.
In these tricky lockdown times, some escapism and adventure is very much appreciated! Happy memories of bus trips and visits to the zoo as well as time with grandparents are all evoked with this sweet children’s book.
Whilst writing this book, author and illustrator Sonia Beldom was visited by a little robin so has decided to make a donation to the RSPB for every book sold. She has also hidden a little robin on each page adding an extra fun thing to spot.
My favourite part of the book was the lion’s rescue while Zach enjoyed hunting for the robin among the other animals. Matthew enjoyed an incident with elephant poo!
Take a look at my review of the first book in the series: Granny Franny’s Big Red Bus, or for more information, take a look at Granny Franny’s website.
About Granny Franny’s Big Zoo Rescue and its author:
Granny Franny’s second adventure on her big red bus starts when her special Zoosday Tuesday appears to be over before it has begun. With the help of her resourceful grand children, Jax & Ronni, Thinkerbell the talking bus bell and a host of funny new characters, Granny Franny comes to the rescue of a zoo whose animals have escaped overnight. Will she be able to pick up the penguins, marshall the monkeys and lure the lion back?
This funny story is about the unbreakable bonds between grand parents and their grand children, the spirit of adventure, generosity, conquering fears, kindness and helping each other.
While Sonia was writing Granny Franny’s Big Zoo Rescue, a tame robin came to visit her every day; sometimes sitting on her laptop screen, often eating out of her hand and exploring the house. Sonia was heartbroken when a sparrow hawk swooped down to take her robin away, so in the little robin’s honour Sonia has planted a picture of him on every page and a percentage of sales is going to the RSPB.
Wolfe is frantic when his daughter’s plane crashes during a blizzard. He finds the crash site but no sign of his daughter so the team begin to search for her. Instead of Julie, they find the remains of three women frozen to death…
Their Frozen Bones is the 23rd book in the Kane and Alton series of crime thrillers set in the USA.
Wolfe is a dedicated father and Jenna and Dave treat his family as an extension of their own. Emotions are high but still kept in check as they begin their search for Julie after her plane crashes. Added to this is the discovery of women frozen in the snow with no obvious injuries but they were deliberately left to freeze to death.
The snow plays a major factor in this book, combined with the treacherous geography of the area which makes the search for Julie and a killer difficult and dangerous. Julie has been rescued but she is wary of trusting a man who has hidden himself away from society. This makes us suspicious of him too and wonder if there is a connection with the women’s deaths. The murder side of the book felt secondary to the emotional turmoil focussed on Julie’s disappearance. There is some tension as we see the next victim being held by the killer. The threat is palpable but there is little violence.
Another element of the plot is that Jenna is pregnant which adds a different dynamic as Dave wants to protect her espcially in the wintry conditions (sorry but I found the whole Kane as protector thing is a bit annoying). The dynamics of the police team may also be about to change with the impending maternity leave and this leaves some characters considering their personal and professional futures.
Their Frozen Bones is an enjoyable addition to this strong series.
Her eyes snap open and she takes in the snow-covered forest around her. She can’t remember how she got here, and a dark figure is running toward her. She doesn’t have time to scream before he’s upon her…
When Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy, David Kane, hear reports of a plane crashing into the mountains that surround Black Rock Falls, their hearts shatter. Their friend’s blonde-haired teenage daughter, Julie, was on that flight. They won’t sleep until they bring Julie home to her distraught family.
A blizzard closing in, Jenna pushes on with the search until, just beyond the snow-capped trees, she finds the plane. She falls to her knees at the sight of the lifeless bodies, still buckled into their seats. But one passenger is missing: Julie has vanished…
Racing into the remote forest, Jenna finds heavy footsteps around the crash site which are too big to be Julie’s. Someone was here before them. Following the prints, Jenna’s pulse races as she finds the bodies of three young women hanging from the tall pine trees, their limbs frozen, their faces lifted to the sky above.
When the victims are identified, Jenna notices that each girl had long blonde hair when they went missing, just like Julie. But when they were found in the forest, their hair had been cut, their looks changed forever. Is a twisted killer preying on girls who he can manipulate before their death? Could Julie be his next victim? With snow piling up around them, Jenna doesn’t have long to find Julie alive. Can she track down this monster before he takes his next innocent life?
Readers of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot, will be absolutely blown away by this totally addictive crime thriller from USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author D.K. Hood.

A gang drugs war leads to a shooting and the police are expected to put all their eforts into resolving the case. However DI Helen Grace diverts her team to the case of a missing teenager who she believes has been abducted…
Forget Me Not is the 12th book in the DI Helen Grace series. I read (and LOVED!) the 11th Book Cat and Mouse.
We meet troubled teen Naomi at the start of the book. She has been dumped by her no-good boyfriend and, now homeless, tries to settle down in a underpass for the night. A kind stranger rescues her but she finds herself in a dreadful situation, held against her will with another girl who has been abused.
Helen has a battle to face with her team and her superiors who all believe that she has her priorities wrong. Luckily she sticks to her convictions even though it puts her career at risk. We know of the danger and horror that Naomi is facing so Helen’s passionate leadership is reassuring that there are people who care.
We see the police investigation, the suspects’ suspicious behaviour as well as Naomi’s terrible situation. The race against time to save the girls is hampered by the police’s attitiude which ramps up the tension. Thankfully, the nature of the abuse Naomi and MIa face is not described in detail. In some ways though, this is worse as it leaves it to your own vivid imagination to fill in the gaps.
The chapters are short and the plot speeds along. There are some great action scenes alongside the relentless pursuit of clues and suspects. The writing style is easy to read and the characters are vivdly imagined. I love Helen and Charlie’s characters as they fight for the vulnerable and challenge stereotypes. I am also familiar with the setting of Southampton and felt that the geography also contributes effectively to the plot.
Forget Me Not is a tense and gripping police thriller.

We have had a bereavement this week and our hearts are broken.
Two months ago, a local rescue reached out looking for a loving retirement home for some elderly guinea pigs. Sadly but perhaps understandably, wannabe owners want babies or younger animals so Phyllis and Mabel and other ‘old ladies’ had been left in the rescue which was then unable to offer homes to others. I immediately offered to take the oldest guinea pigs, and Phyllis and Mabel joined our herd of girls.
Phyllis deteriorated quickly last week and I knew that the kindest action was to put her to sleep. But being the right thing barely makes it any easier…
Grief is the price we pay for love. Phyllis may have only been part of our lives for 2 months but she was family. She enjoyed oh so many cuddles and in the last week had extra special love and care to try to improve her health.
Our children have already experienced losing a pet (our beloved Ollie the collie in 2022) but it doesn’t make it any easier. We were able to prepare the children for both Ollie and Phyllis’ deaths as they could see that they were beginning to struggle and suffer. Therefore, they were able to say goodbye and did not have the shock of an unexpected death that requires extra consideration.
It helps to answer questions as openly as possible whilst also being mindful of the age of the children. A first experience of death may raise concerns about other family members dying so it is best to allow children to explore their feelings and voice their worries. Don’t be afraid to show your own emotions or cry in front of your children.
It sounds like a cliche but time really is a great healer. There is no time limit on grief and we all process it in our own way and at our own pace. Life moves on and death is as natural a part of the life cycle as birth. Celebrate the happy memories. Discussing the seasons can help with difficult explanations too.
We have decided to have a pet photo wall which will also act as a memorial to our deceased friends as time progresses. Together we will look for photos and share memories about those we have loved and lost.
Sending lots of love to those of you who are also grieving for a furry companion. Lx
