Oh my goodness, what a night! I was woken up at 2am thanks to the most almighty crack of thunder which shook the whole world (or so it seemed). Then the electricity went out, thankfully only for minutes. Everyone else stayed asleep…
The rain stayed with us all day. It tried to trick us by having dry sunny spells interspersed with huge downpours!
Our first stop for the day was Aberglasney Gardens, about a 10 minute drive from our lodge. There is an indoor section which we explored first due to the rain: part of the original house has been used to create an inside garden. The gardens have a fairy door trail this summer which the children loved despite the rain and we managed to find them all!
We could easily have spent longer here but it was raining so hard that we decided to dry out a bit over some lunch.
I had researched local eateries and chosen The Cawdor in Llandeilo because the risotto sounded so tempting. We were a bit worried when we arrived in the brasserie area as there were no seats so we were sent through to the bar where there was also no space. I was starting to get a bit upset as we wandered back through to the brasserie when the restaurant staff asked if we were ok and offered us a table, yay!
The food did not disappoint and the staff were attentive throughout our meal without intruding. The bill was extremely reasonable and I could easily have gone back everyday for the rest of the holiday because it was such a great experience.
After our meal we wandered around Llandeilo for a bit then decided to head onto a local castle: Carreg Cennen.
The rain showers continued to play with us but after a bit of a climb we made it to the castle. There was a cave to explore but it was too tricky to get Zach down there and we hadn’t hired or brought a torch so both Chris and I ventured only a little way in.
Time to go back to the lodge for some table tennis and Wii games!
