How to stay healthy in a heatwave Laura Tags: heatwave summer sun weather Summer is here in the UK and the heatwave has struck! It can actually be quite dangerous, even fatal, so it is important to take steps to stay cool. To avoid dehydration and heatstroke follow these top tips: Drink plenty of water. Try to avoid alcohol and caffeine Close curtains and windows on the sunny side of your house. Never leave a person or animal in a closed car Avoid direct sunlight. Try to stay out of the sun between 11 and 3. Use sunscreen and stay in the shade as much as possible. Reapply sunscreen if you go in water or according to product instructions Wear light coloured clothing that is loose Exercise early in the morning or in the evening when the temperature drops. This includes walking dogs as pavements get too hot for their paws Have cool baths and showers. Or put a cool flannel on your pulse points. Eat food with a high water content. Eat little and often Keep an eye on vulnerable people including the young and old, and those with existing illnesses. Enjoy the summer but stay safe! Categories: Personal. / 2 Comments
