Looking for a classic feeling toy with a modern twist? I remember peg boards from my own childhood and we use them at school to help with fine motor skills.

The Lite Brite Oval set brings the concept bang up to date! The set contains a number of charts to follow although it would also be possible for you to design your own pattern.

With our puppies, we couldn’t help but choose the dog design! You simply place the paper over the grid and begin poking the pegs into the correct hole. The chart is easy to follow although it was hard work on the fingers pushing them through the paper.

I was joined by Anya and Zach. We all ahd diffferent ways of approaching this activity. I started at the top and made my way down. Annie picked a colour to focus on and Zach just grabbed a handful of pegs and put them in randomly.

This toy is fabulous for developing and strengthening fine motor skills as the pincer grip is used throughout. It is also great for concentration and mindfulness (I found it rather relaxing!)

The end project was pretty impressive in its own right. But then we closed the curtains and started exploring the light functions. This makes a wonderful visual and sensory product.
